Home for the traveller – Paula Pohjola creates atmospheric short-term rentals

What is a cosy and inviting short-term rental home like? Paula Pohjola knows. She has decorated several charming homes for short-term rentals that invite you to stay and return again and again. He pays special attention to the details that make the space more than just a place to stay: quality materials, calm tones and a genuine homeliness create a warm atmosphere.

– The cosy apartment has a harmonious overall look, but it’s the little unexpected details that make it interesting. The wool carpet underfoot, soft bed linen and carefully chosen furnishings make it special, Paula says.

Her interior design combines practicality and atmosphere. Guests often praise the little touches – beautiful books, international magazines and thoughtful paintings – that make the apartments personal and welcoming.

Each apartment has its own story

Paula’s designs are mainly located in old buildings, whose strong history inspires her interior design.

– When I enter a new apartment, I wonder what it wants to tell me. I often get the feeling of being in a familiar city abroad. That’s why I named the apartments after these cities: Stockholm, Paris, Copenhagen and Madrid. I haven’t named my next home yet – maybe it will be Oslo or even Tampere,” he laughs.

A functional and atmospheric home for the traveller

Short-term rental accommodation must combine ease of maintenance and comfort.

– I choose materials that are durable and easy to care for. Bed linen that doesn’t need ironing and easy-to-vacuum mats are practical. Small decorative elements, such as Fanni K’s vase or a candle lantern, add cosiness without making cleaning difficult.

Paula’s main interior design elements:

  1. Rugs – especially warm, natural materials
  2. Bed – high quality pillows, blankets. Bed linen creates a hotel-like but cosy experience
  3. Harmonious colour palette – shades blend together to create a calming effect
  4. Paintings – add a sense of story and personality to a space

Guests thank you for the cosiness

Paula’s apartments have received a lot of positive feedback from visitors – including international tourists.

– At first, I wondered if my apartments were too personal compared to the hotel-like options. But I have received a lot of praise for the fact that the apartments feel like a real home. Many guests come back again,” says Paula.

Honest photos help to find the right mood

Because the apartments are personal, Paula pays particular attention to the authenticity of the photos.

– I know that not everyone has the same style. That’s why I want the pictures to be honest and convey the atmosphere as authentically as possible. The right people will find the right homes when the pictures tell the truth.

Small choices have a big impact

One of the most popular destinations is the compact studio apartment, where all functions are located in the same space. Paula did not try to create space with light shades, but dared to use contrasting colours and dark, warm tones.

– Brown, black and beige combine to create a space that feels like a warm lap. And that’s why guests feel so comfortable there.

Textiles and furnishings, such as ceramic vases and soft cushions, add the finishing touches and make the room feel cosy.

Welcome – it’s the feeling that counts

Ultimately, the most important thing is that the guest feels genuinely welcome.

– My cleaner always sprays the room with a fresh room fragrance at the end. Maybe that’s our secret weapon. Or maybe it’s the story paintings that stick in your mind. The most important thing is to create a warm feeling.

A visit to Paula’s apartment is remembered not just for the beautiful interior – but for the way it made you feel.

– I hope visitors will remember the feeling of being genuinely welcome,” says Paula with a smile.
